Post-Graduate Students' Macabre Act of Murder Shocks Gorakhpur, Uttar Pradesh

The disappearance of 23-year-old Shikha Dubey from Gorakhpur, Uttar Pradesh, was reported by her father, Ram Prakash Dubey, on June 16, 2008. The following day, a girl's body was discovered near the Saryu Canal Colony, and it was identified as that of Shikha's. The post-mortem report confirmed that Shikha had been sexually assaulted and then killed. Her father then told the police that her university friend, Deepu Yadav, could be behind the murder.

However, on June 18, Dubey became suspicious of the events and requested a second post-mortem examination. It was discovered that Shikha had not been killed, but another girl, Pooja Kumari, who had been brought to Gorakhpur by Deepu and his friend, Sugreev, in Shikha's clothing. Shikha and Deepu had secretly married in April and had killed Pooja to live together without being hunted by Shikha's family.

The macabre act of the post-graduate students shocked Gorakhpur, and the police launched a manhunt for Deepu. The case highlights the need for bettereducation and support for young people on issues related to relationships, marriage, and consent. It also underscores the importance of thorough investigations and the need for strict laws to curb such heinous crimes.
