Crime Patrol: 'Accidental death' turns to murder, three arrested (Episode 67 on 16th December 2011)

The Inside Story

Pune, Maharashtra

Three men have been arrested for the murder of Mayur Pathare, a 19-year-old from Kharadi, whose body was found on railway tracks at Mundhwa on August 14. The police identified the suspects as Sachin Dagdu Kolhe, Mahesh Chandrakant Agarkar, and Avinash Dilip Gawli. Pathare was in love with a girl who abandoned him to be with Agarkar. Pathare threatened Agarkar and asked him to discontinue his relationship with the girl. On the day of the murder, Pathare had asked Agarkar to meet him at Mundhwa bridge at 6.30 pm for a discussion. But Agarkar suspected foul play and entered into a criminal conspiracy with Kolhe, who brought a rope and a knife. The trio had a heated discussion over the woman, and Agarkar and Kolhe thrashed Pathare and strangled him with the rope. Kolhe attacked Pathare with the knife, killing him on the spot. The suspects took three gold chains, Rs 2,000, and two cellphones from Pathare and dumped his body on a railway track, which was run over by a train.

The murder came to light while investigating a 'missing persons' complaint lodged by Pathare's parents. The suspects were arrested by constable Yashwant Khandare and policemen Kiran Neil and Rajaram Gogre under the guidance of senior inspector Deepak Sawant. The victim's relatives identified Pathare by his photograph and clothes. The suspects were arrested on charges of committing an offence under sections 120 (b) (criminal conspiracy), 302 (murder), 201 (destroying evidence), 394 (robbery) and 411 (selling stolen property) read with 34 (common intention) of the Indian Penal Code.
