Two friends arrested for kidnapping and killing student for ransom in Mumbai
A second-year B Com student of Thakur College of Science and Commerce in Kandivali, Ganesh Ramchandra Shriram, was allegedly lured from his Mira Road residence and murdered at Naigaon by two of his friends, Kalpesh Saroj and Ravindra Kumar Yadav. The accused vegetable vendors from Boisar demanded Rs 8 lakh from Shriram's father and were arrested when they went to collect the ransom. The duo led the police to Shriram's body, which had been dumped near the Naigaon creek.
The accused borrowed Rs 1 lakh from Shriram's father, which they were unable to return, and decided to kidnap and kill Shriram to make quick money. On Monday, the accused called up Shriram and lured him to Boisar, where they allegedly killed him and disposed of his body near the Naigaon creek. Saroj demanded Rs 8 lakh from Shriram's father for his son's release and negotiated a deal for Rs 3 lakh. The police tapped Ramchandra's phone to locate the caller and arrested the accused when they went to collect the money.
The incident highlights the vulnerability of students living alone in Mumbai and the need for stricter security measures to prevent such crimes. The accused's actions have resulted in the loss of a young life and left the victim's family devastated. It is essential to create awareness among young adults about the dangers of befriending strangers and to establish a safe and supportive environment for victims of kidnapping and ransom to seek help. The police have arrested the accused under Sections 302 (murder) and 364 A (kidnapping for ransom) of the Indian Penal Code and are investigating the case further.
