Crime Patrol: Man kills brother-in-law as revenge for sister's suicide (Episode 158, 22 Sep 2012)

The Inside Story

Man avenges sister's death by murdering brother-in-law and mother-in-law in Mumbai

Shashikant Prabhar Palve, a 20-year-old man, was arrested in Mumbai for murdering his brother-in-law and sister's mother-in-law with a cut-throat razor. The incident occurred in Ganesh Colony, Kajupada, Dahisar (E). Palve had taken an oath on his sister's body, just before her cremation on August 15 last year, to avenge her death. His sister, Sunita, had committed suicide a day before Raksha Bandhan in 2020, and Palve and his family suspected that Sunita's in-laws were responsible for her death.

Gyaneshwar Pandurang Kakad had married Sunita in 2005, and they had two children. Sunita's family believed that Gyaneshwar was an alcoholic, and his mother, Laxmibai Pandurang Kakad, had physically abused Sunita over petty issues. The Nashik police had arrested Gyaneshwar and his mother for abetment of suicide after Sunita's death and released them on bail after three months. Sunita's family suspected that her in-laws had murdered her and made it appear like a suicide. Palve confessed to the murders and was arrested under Section 302 of the Indian Penal Code.

The incident highlights the dangers of taking the law into one's hands and seeking revenge. Palve's actions have resulted in the loss of two lives and left two children orphaned. This incident is a reminder that it is essential to seek legal recourse and allow the legal system to take its course. The police have recovered the murder weapon and clothes from the crime scene and are investigating the case further.
