The Inside Story

Engineering student found dead in Punjabi Bagh

On September 24, 2012, Dharmender, an engineering student from Sikar, Rajasthan, was found dead in Punjabi Bagh, west Delhi. A passerby discovered his body around 7:30 am, lying in a pool of blood with several fractures on his body and deep injury marks on his chin and right hand. Despite his wallet and mobile phone being with him, robbery was ruled out as a motive for his death.

After investigating the case, the police discovered that Dharmender had a girlfriend who lived in Madipur. They fled from their homes in July the previous year, but only the girl returned after a few days. Dharmender, who lived in a rented accommodation near the girl's house, never returned home. His family thought he was studying engineering in Jamshedpur, but he was actually living near his girlfriend.

The police are currently questioning the girlfriend and her family members, trying to establish a motive for the murder. Dharmender's cellphone call details have also been collected. According to the preliminary autopsy report, he died after being beaten on the head with a heavy object.
