The Inside Story

Police Investigate Role of Rai's Lady Love in Maaz Murder Case

Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh: The police have turned their attention to the lady love of absconding police inspector Sanjai Rai in the murder case of her 13-year-old cousin, Maaz. In addition to investigating her involvement in the boy's killing, the police have reopened an old murder case in which the woman was previously named but later cleared of any charges.

Maaz, an eighth-grade student, was staying with the girl's family in Indira Nagar when four assailants entered the house on May 29 and shot him dead. Following the arrest of Sanjay Rai's associate Ram Babu and two contract killers, the police claimed that the inspector orchestrated the murder because he wanted to frame a man named Aqmal, who had developed a close relationship with the girl he loved.

While the police initially denied the girl's involvement in the crime, further investigation has raised suspicions about her role. It is now suspected that she may have had knowledge of the plot beforehand. The assailants deliberately targeted Maaz instead of her two real brothers, who opened the door, suggesting a potential connection to the girl. Previously, she had consistently mentioned Aqmal in relation to the murder, but never mentioned Rai until the arrests were made.
