Crime Patrol:2 yrs after girl reunited with family (Episode 150, 151 on 2nd, 3rd Sep 2012)

The Inside Story

Delhi Police and Villagers Reunite Missing Girl with Family After Two Years

Two years after she went missing while playing outside her house, Akhtar Alam's five-year-old daughter was reunited with her family thanks to the Delhi Police and residents of a remote village in Uttar Pradesh. Jamila Khatoon had reported her daughter missing to the police in September 2010, and the case had remained unsolved until last Tuesday when a Malviya Nagar resident approached the beat constable with a photograph of a minor girl stored in his cellphone.

The photograph was of Akhtar Alam's missing daughter, who had been found in a market in Bhadoi by villagers. They had taken her in and tried to find her family, and had even taken a photograph of her to send to Rehman's father, who was the sarpanch of Zahidpur village in Bhadoi. Rehman's father asked him to approach the local police in Khirkee Extension to help reunite the girl with her family. After verifying the girl's identity, police traced her parents and also discovered that she had been kidnapped by a resident of Zahidpur village.

The police are still searching for the kidnapper and his accomplices, but the family is overjoyed to have their daughter back. This incident highlights the importance of community involvement in solving crimes and bringing missing persons home, as well as the persistence and dedication of law enforcement officials in reuniting families.
