Crime Patrol: Man fakes kin's death, claims insurance (Episode 235, 236 on 19th, 20th Apr 2013)

The Inside Story

Aug 26, 2012, Meticulously Planned Forgery in Jaipur

A man in Sikar town, Jaipur, has shocked the police with a carefully planned forgery. He cremated the body of an unidentified man, claiming him to be his brother-in-law Kishore who died in an accident in front of Samrat Cinema Hall in the city. He then requested an insurance amount of over Rs 20 lakh. However, Subhash Chowk police found Kishore alive and lodged an FIR against the fraudster and his accomplices. The insurance claim is yet to be approved.

Jitendra Kumar, the accused, provided fake documents to support his claim and got half a dozen people to record their statements before the police. At the same time, a missing complaint was filed with Ramganj police station, stating that Santosh had gone missing. Santosh's mobile phone was traced and seized from a man who claimed that its owner had died in an accident in front of Samrat Cinema Hall.

When Ramganj police checked the records, it became clear that an insurance claim had been filed for the accident victim with Subhash Chowk police station, leading to confusion between Kishore and Subhash as they have no connection. A team was sent to Sikar, where Kishore was found to be alive. Jitendra has been booked under section 420 of the IPC, and the police are looking for him and his associates.
